Text | Conemaugh, taken from Conemaugh township. It was also created by an act of assembly dated January 12, 1831, P. L. 7. The name was changed to the borough of Johnstown by a similar act dated April 14, 1834, P. L. 294. It was named by Joseph Johns, the founder, for an old Indian town named Conemaugh. It included the first seven wards of the city of Johnstown at the time of the consolidation, December 18, 1889. |
